Port Users Handbook

This booklet is intended to bring to your attention the requirements necessary to safely regulate commercial traffic movements in Londonderry Port, and to comply with local rules and national legislation.

Section 52 of the Harburs, Docks and Pier Clauses Act 1847 which is incorporated within the Londonderry Port and Harbour Act, sets out the powers of a Harbour Master who may give direction for the following purposes:

  1. For regulating the time at which and the manner in which any vessel shall enter into, go out of, or lie in the Harbour Dock or Pier, and within the prescribed limits, if any, and its position, mooring or unmooring, placing and removing whilst therin.
  2. For removing unserviceable vessels or other obstruction from the Harbour,Dock, Pier and keeping the same clear.

This booklet covers harbour radio and traffic monitoring, pilotage, shifting berth, fog routine, under keel clearance, vessel speed, tugs, vessel bunkering, maintenance work, whilst alongside, emergency drills, waste control and more.
